I have some job-hunting experience and summarize as the following.
Hopefully, it can benefit someone here. Friends here who can add more
are also greatly appreciated.
1. You should remember that there is no perfect job in this world.
2. Look for your job in a broad region, better yet national wide.
The good pay jobs often are not in the regions or cities where you
want to live.
3. When you go for an interview, always show your sunshine smile
and ask appropriate questions. With this simple strategy, I can
get a job offer from almost every interview I have gone for so far.
4. Negotiate for a better deal (higher salary, more vocation time,
sign-on bonus, etc.), but do not be too greedy. Just remember that
having a job is always much better than none.
5. Do not let a good chance slip away from you. I have leant my
lesson well from my recent experience. I got a very good offer recently.
It is a good pay job (95 percentile in USA among the same professionals),
and work load is not bad, plus they welcomed me and wanted me badly
and were willing to negotiate with me in any way to nail down to
a deal that I can accept. Location is good (no state income tax,
nice weather), but the city size is not too ideal (mainly the city
population is small, about 40,000); I told them honestly that I
had to go for two more interviews before I could make my final decision.
After I decided to go for the job, the job had already been gone
for several days.
6. Consider as many factors as possible before you make your final
decision.
Once again, just remember there is no perfect job in this world!
If you have only one offer, accept that offer!
If you have two or more offers, choose one wisely. Do not look
solely at the starting salary and look for long term income and
other factors!
Finally, choose a good working team if you can. Having a job to
make a living is important; enjoying working with other pleasant
people will make your working day shorter and pleasant, just as
having a beautiful marriage!
Good Luck to everyone!
